Roberto Tamai

E-elt Programme Manager at European Southern Observatory

Roberto Tamai has extensive experience in the field of astronomical engineering, currently serving as the E-ELT Programme Manager at the European Southern Observatory since October 1999, focusing on the construction and delivery of the European Extremely Large Telescope. Prior roles include Head of Technology Division, Deputy Director of Engineering, and Deputy Director at the Paranal Observatory. Earlier in their career, Roberto worked as a Project Engineer at the Centro Italiano Ricerche Aerospaziali, contributing to the Hypersonic Facility and Plasma Wind Tunnel projects from 1992 to 1999. Roberto holds a Post Graduation in Combustion and Optical Techniques from the University of California, Berkeley, and an Engineer's degree in the same fields from Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, complemented by fellowships in Berkeley.
