Aiko de Vries serves as a Nonexecutive Board Member at Nefrovisie since 2020 and holds multiple positions at Leiden University Medical Center since 2008, including Vice Chair of the Transplant Center and Medical Director of Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation. Additional roles include Transplant Nephrologist and Medical Director of the Complement Program. Aiko de Vries has been a Delegate for Eurotransplant since 2015 and a Nonexecutive Board Member of the Nederlandse Federatie voor Nefrologie from January 2020 to July 2024. Aiko de Vries chairs the National Kidney (and Pancreas) Transplant Advisory Committee for the Nederlandse Transplantatie Stichting until July 2024 and was a Board Member of the European Kidney Transplantation Association with ESOT from September 2019 to September 2023. Education includes a Ph.D. in Transplant Medicine and an M.D. from the University of Groningen, along with executive education at Harvard Business School.

Eurotransplant

Eurotransplant has been founded in 1967 by Prof. Dr. Jon van Rood (1926-2017) and is an international organ-exchange organization that covers Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, and Slovenia. Partners in the organ-exchange process include transplant hospitals, tissue-typing laboratories, hospitals where organ donations take place and national competent authorities. The Eurotransplant region has a population of approx. 135 million people. As mediator between donor and recipient, Eurotransplant plays a key role in the allocation and distribution of donor organs for transplantation. The mission statement and goals of Eurotransplant express the foundation's main target: to ensure an optimal use of available donor organs. The allocation system is based upon medical en ethical criteria. Through conducting and facilitating scientific research, Eurotransplant aims at a constant improvement of transplant outcomes.
