Surya Prakash has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of metabolic diseases and drug discovery. Surya started their career in 1997 as a Trainee Molecular Pharmacologist at AstraZeneca before moving on to work as a Medical Sales Representative at Panacea Biotec. In 1999, they worked as a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology.
In 2000, Surya Prakash joined Dr Reddys labs Ltd Hyderabad India as a Scientist, where they contributed to the development of multiple compounds for the treatment of insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and diabetes. Surya played a key role in the selection and advancement of various drug candidates.
In 2005, Surya Prakash joined The University of Queensland as a Graduate Student, focusing on the metabolic function of nuclear receptors in skeletal muscle cells. Surya identified and validated pathways and functions regulated by the orphan nuclear receptor, ROR alpha.
After completing their studies, Surya Prakash worked as a Research Scientist at Eli Lilly and Company from 2008 to 2011. Surya then joined Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School as a Senior Research Scientist, where they investigated the role of specific lipids in the development of insulin resistance and diabetes.
In 2014, Surya Prakash joined Sanofi as a Laboratory Head in the R&D Diabetes Division. Surya led research efforts to identify and validate novel targets for diabetes and metabolic diseases, resulting in the inclusion of several targets in the early drug discovery pipeline.
From 2016 to 2017, Surya Prakash worked at the National University of Singapore as a Lead Biological Scientist and pharmacology consultant. Surya headed projects on genetic association studies and the development of therapeutics for metabolic diseases.
Since 2017, Surya Prakash has been working at Evotec, first as a Group Leader for Metabolic Diseases and currently as the Vice President for Metabolic Diseases. In their current role, they are involved in transnational research focused on human genetic-disease associations and the establishment and maintenance of early drug discovery research portfolios for various metabolic diseases.
Overall, Surya Prakash's work experience showcases their expertise in metabolic diseases, drug discovery, and genetic research.
Surya Prakash has a PhD in Pharmacology from The University of Queensland, which was obtained from 2005 to 2008. Prior to that, they completed their M.Tech in Biotechnology from Gulbarga University from 1996 to 1997, and their M.Sc in Microbiology from Gulbarga University from 1994 to 1996.
