Principal Engineer at Exponent

David Anderson, Ph.D., P.E. has a diverse and extensive work experience. Currently, they hold the position of Principal Engineer at Exponent, where they have been since 2015. Prior to this, they worked at Exponent in various roles including Senior Managing Engineer, Managing Engineer, and Senior Engineer.

Before joining Exponent, David worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Georgia Institute of Technology from 2010 to 2015. David also served as a Visiting Scholar at RTI International in 2013, specifically at the Center for Energy Technology.

Earlier in their career, David worked at Caterpillar Inc. as a Product Development Engineer. In this role, they led the development process for machine cooling systems for multiple off-highway construction equipment models. David was responsible for tasks such as functional requirement specification, thermal analysis, CAD design, supplier selection, and performance validation.

Additionally, David briefly worked as a Center Director at the Appalachia Service Project in 2004. In this role, they coordinated major home rehabilitation projects for impoverished families in Appalachia, managing a staff of four, overseeing over 15 construction projects, and coordinating over 500 volunteers.

David Anderson, Ph.D., P.E. obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University from 2001 to 2005. David then pursued further education at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where they earned a Master of Science (MS) in Mechanical Engineering from 2010 to 2013. Following that, they continued their studies at the Georgia Institute of Technology and completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mechanical Engineering from 2013 to 2015.

In addition to their academic achievements, David has obtained several certifications. David became a Professional Engineer through the Georgia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors in December 2016. David also holds the certification of Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator from the National Association of Fire Investigators, obtained in June 2016, and is a Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator, obtained in June 2018 from the same institution.
