Georgios Dimitrakopoulos, Ph.D., P.E., CFEI has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Starting in 2012, they worked as a researcher at the National Technical University of Athens, specifically in the Parallel CFD & Optimization Unit, from March to August. In the same year, they joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a Ph.D. candidate in the Reacting Gas Dynamics Laboratory, where they worked until January 2017. In this role, they also served as a postdoctoral associate in the Reacting Gas Dynamics Laboratory from January to September 2017 and in the Laboratory for Electrochemical Interfaces from October 2017 to November 2019. Georgios then became a research scientist at MIT in December 2019 and worked in that position until March 2022.
In 2014, Georgios also gained industry experience as a summer intern at ExxonMobil, where they worked for three months.
Georgios is currently employed at Exponent, starting as a Senior Associate in March 2022 and transitioning to the role of Senior Engineer in August 2023.
Georgios Dimitrakopoulos, Ph.D., P.E., CFEI, obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Mechanical Engineering and Computation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Georgios attended the institution from 2012 to 2017. Prior to that, they completed their Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Mechanical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens. Georgios studied there from 2007 to 2012.
In addition to their academic degrees, Georgios Dimitrakopoulos has obtained several certifications. Georgios is a Professional Engineer (PE), certified by the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists. Georgios obtained this certification in July 2023. Georgios is also a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI), certified by the National Association of Fire Investigators. Georgios obtained this certification in February 2023. Furthermore, they hold the title of Engineer in Training from both the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists (obtained in February 2023) and the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors (obtained in January 2023).
