Thorsten Nowak

Thorsten Nowak started their work experience as a Team Leader and Medicinal Chemist at AstraZeneca in 1996, where they gained expertise in drug design, synthesis, and design hypothesis testing. Thorsten then moved on to C4X Discovery Ltd in 2012, working as a Senior Medicinal Chemist and being responsible for various tasks such as project management and outsourcing strategy. Thorsten continued to grow within the company and became the Head of Medicinal Chemistry and later the VP of Structural Design & Medicinal Chemistry. In 2019, they joined Lead Discovery Center GmbH as a Medicinal Chemistry Group Leader. Currently, Thorsten is working at Exscientia as the VP of Medicinal Chemistry, leading a team of scientists in applying artificial intelligence and computational methods to drug design.

Thorsten Nowak obtained their Ph.D in Organic Chemistry from the University of Cambridge from 1993 to 1996. Prior to that, they completed their Diploma in Chemistry at Heidelberg University from 1989 to 1993. Thorsten also holds a degree as a Diplomchemiker in Chemistry from the University of Düsseldorf from 1985 to 1987.
