Matthew Oberting

Matthew Oberting has extensive experience in payroll tax and compliance. Matthew served as the Senior Director of Payroll Tax and Compliance at ExtensisHR from 2023. Prior to that, they worked at Justworks as the Director of Payroll & Tax Operations, where they led a team of payroll professionals, researched compliance strategies, developed systematic tools, and coordinated year-end processes. Before joining Justworks, they held the position of Director of Payroll Tax and Compliance at ExtensisHR from 2019 to 2021, where they oversaw payroll processing, implemented streamlined processes, standardized client billing, and maintained compliance standards. Earlier in their career, they worked at TriNet as the Manager of Payroll Tax Reporting and at Gerdau North America as the Payroll & HRIS Supervisor. At TriNet, they managed employment tax reporting, provided direction for best practices, and ensured scalable tax processes. At Gerdau North America, they led a project to migrate multiple divisions onto a common HCM platform, conducted training on HCM processes, and optimized teams' use of Excel.

Matthew Oberting attended Eastern Michigan University from 1995 to 1999, where they obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) with a focus on Accounting. In terms of additional certifications, they earned a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification from PayrollOrg in 2014 and is currently pursuing a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification from GoLeanSixSigma.com, with an expected completion date in 2023.
