Vice President, Innovation at Fair Labor Association

Burcu Kugu has a diverse work experience spanning over several industries and roles. Burcu started their career as a Sound Technician at Acik Radyo in 1998. Later, they worked as a Project Officer at Diakonie Emergency Aid, where they were involved in various emergency relief and rehabilitation projects. Burcu then joined Support to Life as a Program Manager, responsible for project planning, implementation, and evaluation. Following this, they worked as a Freelance Consultant and Trainer at Talimhane Consultancy, providing training and consultancy services on various topics. Burcu also worked as an External Evaluator at Support to Life, conducting impact evaluations of relief aid and protection programs in Turkey.

In 2015, Burcu worked as an External Auditor at the Fair Labor Association before transitioning to the role of Quality Management Director at Support to Life, where they contributed to the strategic vision and organizational development of the organization. Burcu then returned to the Fair Labor Association as a Project Manager and later as the Director of Fair Labor Agriculture Alliance. Currently, they are the Program Director of Supply Chain Innovation and Partnerships at the Fair Labor Association, where they direct programs and projects focused on improving workplace conditions in global supply chains, with a particular emphasis on the agriculture sector.

Burcu Kugu earned their Bachelor's Degree in Communication from Marmara University, which they attended from 1996 to 2000. Following this, they pursued a Master's Degree in Music Technology at Academy Istanbul from 2001 to 2003.

Fair Labor Association

Fair Labor Association is an international organization that combines the efforts of industry, civil society organizations, and colleges and universities to protect workers’ rights and improve working conditions worldwide by promoting adherence to international labor standards.In 1996, President Clinton assembled a meeting of multinationalcompanies and non-governmental organizations at the White House and challenged them to work together to improve working conditions in the apparel and footwear industries. This group became the Fair Labor Association, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.Based on International Labor standards, Fair Labor Association has developed a Workplace Code of Conduct, and created a practical monitoring, remediation and verification process to attain those standards.Fair Labor Association conducts independent monitoring and verification to ensure that its Workplace Standards are maintained. Through public reporting, it provides consumers and shareholders with reliable information to make responsible buying decisions.Fair Labor Association offers a mechanism to address serious labor rights violations through the Third Party Complaint process.Fair Labor Association was incorporated in 1999 and is headquartered in Washington, D.C., with offices in China, Switzerland, and Turkey.
