Since September 2013, Alan has served as a part-time substitute teacher at Hayfield Secondary School in Virginia, focusing on advancing student achievement in social studies and English across various academic levels, including Advanced Placement and Special Education. Prior to this, Alan held the position of Assistant Librarian in an elementary school, managing library resources for over 800 students and 100 teachers. Alan's previous experience includes serving as Director of Government Relations for the National Association for the Support of Long Term Care and as Assistant Director of Government Relations for the American Optometric Association, where legislative priorities were developed for healthcare professionals. Alan also worked as District Administrator and Legislative Assistant for U.S. Representative Thomas J. Tauke, overseeing district operations in Iowa. Educational qualifications include a Master of Arts in Public Administration from the University of Iowa and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government from Wartburg College.
