Valerie Hardy has a diverse and extensive work experience in the education field. Valerie is currently working at Falls Church City Public Schools as the Head of Secondary Schools since July 2021. Prior to that, they served as the Principal from July 2017 to July 2021. Before joining Falls Church, Valerie held various roles in Fairfax County Public Schools, including Assistant Principal, Secondary School Counseling Specialist, Director of Student Services, Lead Professional School Counselor, and Professional School Counselor. Valerie also worked as a Special Education Teacher and Professional School Counselor at Wake County Public School System and Durham Public Schools. Valerie started their career as a Special Education Teacher at Albemarle County Public Schools.

Valerie Hardy holds a Bachelor's degree in Sociology/Special Education from James Madison University, which they obtained between 1994 and 1998. Valerie pursued further education and completed a Master's degree in School Counseling at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2001 to 2002. Valerie also attended the University of Virginia, where they focused on Educational Leadership and earned an Administrative Endorsement in 2013. In addition to their academic qualifications, Valerie holds a Virginia Professional Teaching License with endorsements in PreK-12 Special Education (Emotional Disturbance, Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities), K-12 School Counseling, and K-12 Administration & Supervision.
