Lee Denton

Deputy Director of Services & Innovation London at Family Action

Lee Denton is currently the Deputy Director of Services & Innovation London at Family Action. Prior to this, they worked as a Counseling Intern at Bill Wilson Center from March 2021 to August 2022. There, they used documentation requirements as opportunities for meaningful conversations about attachment figures, childhood risk and protective factors, and relational schemas. They also helped establish rapport, assess for risk, and maintain motivation for treatment. In addition, Lee provided psychoeducation about emotions and supported clients while they learned to process them. They also helped clients understand family, cultural, societal dynamics and learn to offer themselves self-compassion. Finally, they de-pathologized grief and empowered clients to mourn their losses with dignity.

Before working at Bill Wilson Center, Lee was a Volunteer Counselor at Coastal Turning Point from June 2020 to August 2020. There, they facilitated psychosocial groups, such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness and self-compassion focused, brain science and resilience, and Dharma Recovery. Lee also performed trauma-informed biopsychosocial intakes with assigned clients and created treatment plans that were updated as appropriate on KIPU.

Lee began their social work career as a Clinical Social Work Intern at Superior Court, County of Santa Clara from January 2018 to July 2018.

Lee Denton has a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Palo Alto University, a Master of Social Work in Mental Health Counseling/Counselor from San Jose State University, a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Government from San Jose State University, a Paralegal Certificate in Legal Studies from De Anza College's ABA-Approved Paralegal Studies Program, an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences/Liberal Studies from De Anza College, and a certification from the Conflict Resolution Center of Santa Cruz County in conflict resolution certification. Lee also has certifications from CCAPP in registered alcohol and drug abuse counselor and from YWCA USA in 40 hour legal advocate domestic violence training.

They are on a team with Anja Bailey - Director of Development & External Affairs, Heather Kearney - Deputy Director of External Engagement, and Ricardo Gomes Da Silva - General Counsel & Director of Systems. Lee Denton reports to David Holmes, CEO.
