Marcelo Diaz is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in peace and security, currently serving as a Peace and Security Attaché at the Embassy of Sweden in Bogotá since September 2018. In this role, Marcelo oversees the implementation of the Folke Bernadotte Academy's mandate in Colombia, focusing on political dialogue and capacity building in areas such as Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR), Security Sector Reform (SSR), dialogue and mediation, and gender mainstreaming in accordance with Resolution 1325. Prior to this, Marcelo worked as an Expert Adviser on Security and Gender for the Colombian Ministry for Postconflict from December 2015 to August 2018, where expertise was provided on gender provisions of Colombia's Peace Agreement. Marcelo's background includes serving as a Human Rights Officer with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights from August 2007 to November 2015. Marcelo holds multiple degrees, including a Master’s degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution from the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, and several Bachelor's degrees from Uppsala University and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
