Mayra Lopez

Mayra Lopez serves as an Assistant Federal Defender and Trial Attorney at Federal Defenders of San Diego, Inc. since September 2022, having previously held roles as a law clerk and summer legal intern at the same organization. Mayra has extensive experience in criminal defense and immigration law, with a history of conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, and client representation. Prior positions include Certified Immigrant Rights Clinical Student at the University of California, Irvine School of Law, and intern at the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project. Mayra's background also encompasses significant legal investigations with the ACLU of San Diego & Imperial Counties, where responsibilities included leading investigative programs and managing legal intakes. Mayra holds a Doctor of Law (JD) from the University of California, Irvine School of Law, a Master of Arts in History from San Diego State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of California, Riverside.
