Matt Powers is an experienced legal professional with a strong background in military and federal law. Currently serving as an Assistant Federal Public Defender since February 2016, Powers has previously held various positions in the United States Marine Corps, including Reserve Attorney and Senior Defense Counsel, where notable accomplishments include trying multiple felony and misdemeanor jury trials. Powers also served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney and a Military Prosecutor, handling a wide range of military cases. An LLM graduate from The Judge Advocate's Legal Center and School, Powers has taught critical legal topics to Marines in combat zones. Powers holds a JD from the University of Minnesota Law School and a BBA in Economics from Marshall University.
