Jean David Caprace is an accomplished academic and leader in the field of marine engineering. Currently serving as the Director of Academic Affairs at COPPE/UFRJ since July 2023, Caprace also holds a professorship and heads the Ocean Engineering Graduate Program at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, a position maintained since August 2013. Additionally, since April 2019, Caprace has been the Editor-in-Chief of Marine Systems & Ocean Technology for Springer Nature and has led LABSEN since January 2016. Prior roles include Technical Director at SOBENA from 2017 to 2020 and PROMETEO research engineer at Escuela Superior Politecnica del Litoral until 2013. Caprace's early career involved lecturing and research engineering at the University of Liège, contributing significantly to the competitiveness of European shipyards. Caprace’s educational background includes a PhD in Engineering from the University of Liège, where studies pursued from 2005 to 2010 were preceded by a DEA and a DEC in Engineering, along with an Industrial Engineering degree in aeronautics from ISIB.
