Thomas B. Shiell, Ph.D. has a diverse work history in scientific research and technology sourcing. From 2010 to 2014, they founded and led STM Engineering, a small business specializing in customized fabricated products. During this time, they managed client relationships, optimized profitability, and negotiated with suppliers.

From 2014 to 2018, Thomas pursued their Doctor of Philosophy in Physics at The Australian National University. During their studies, they led multiple collaborative projects on artificial diamond synthesis, resulting in high-impact scientific publications. Thomas B. also successfully authored funding proposals and completed their PhD program ahead of schedule.

Following their PhD, Thomas worked as a Research Scientist at RMIT University from 2018 to 2019. Thomas B. built and designed a scientific laboratory for high-pressure experimental research, trained staff and students, and contributed to ongoing PhD research projects.

From 2019 to 2021, Thomas worked at the Carnegie Institution for Science as a Research Scientist. Here, they led multiple research projects focused on semiconducting materials and solar technology, resulting in scientific publications and international collaborations.

Currently, Thomas holds the position of Head of Technology Sourcing at FedTech, where they drive deep tech ventures across various government agencies and organizations. Thomas B. works with individuals, companies, and government agencies to stay at the cutting edge of innovation through startup studios, accelerators, and internal innovation programs.

Thomas B. Shiell, Ph.D. completed their education in a chronological order. In 2009, they enrolled at the University of Melbourne, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree with a minor in Economics. Thomas B. continued their studies at the same institution and obtained a Master of Science degree in Physics in 2013.

Following their time at the University of Melbourne, Thomas pursued further academic achievements. From 2014 to 2018, they attended The Australian National University, where they successfully completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Physics.

In addition to their academic qualifications, Thomas has also obtained several certifications. In 2021, they received the SIE certification from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). Furthermore, in November 2021, Thomas passed the Chartered Financial Analyst Level-1 exam, which was administered by the CFA Institute. These additional certifications demonstrate Thomas's commitment to expanding their knowledge and professional development in the field of finance.
