Shannon McGurk

Shannon McGurk has a diverse work experience, primarily in roles related to China analysis and advisory. Shannon is currently working as a China Futurist and Long Term Analyst for FGS, LLC since January 2021. Prior to that, they served as an Associate at Booz Allen Hamilton from December 2019 to January 2021.

Shannon has also worked as a Staff Advisor at General Dynamics Information Technology from April 2018 to June 2019. Before that, they worked at the United States Department of Defense as a China Advisor from May 2012 to April 2018, and as a China Advisor to DoD at ManTech from October 2009 to May 2012.

Shannon also has experience in business development, having worked as a Business Development Executive at IBM from 2008 to 2009. Shannon started their career in the US Army, where they served as a Ground Cavalry Officer and China Foreign Area Officer from July 1992 to July 2002.

Additionally, they have managerial experience, having worked as a Manager at Northrop Grumman from July 2005 to May 2008.

Shannon McGurk holds a Master of Arts (MA) degree in East Asian Studies, with a focus on China, from the University of Virginia. Shannon completed their MA program from 1991 to 1992. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in English and Political Science from the University of Mary Washington, attending from 1978 to 1982. In addition to their formal education, Shannon has acquired several certifications. In March 2021, they received a certification in Data, Economic Modeling, and Forecasting with Stata from LinkedIn. Around the same time, they also obtained a certification in Leading Teams Working with Data: Pitfalls and Best Practices from LinkedIn. In February 2021, they completed a certification course on Building Your Visibility as a Leader, also from LinkedIn.
