Sonia Ovarlez began their work experience in 2007 as an Ingénieur de recherche R&I at L'Oréal, where they worked until 2012. In 2013, they became the Color Strategy Manager and Head of Color Development Laboratory at FIABILA. Sonia also co-founded PIGM'AZUR, a company specializing in creating and manufacturing natural and highly resistant pigments, in the same year.
Sonia Ovarlez earned a Doctorat de Chimie degree from the Université de Nice Sophia Antipolis, specializing in Laboratory of Chemistry of Organic and Metallic Materials. Sonia conducted their research at the Institute of Chemistry from 2004 to 2008. Prior to that, they obtained a Master Conservation-Restauration d'Oeuvres d'Art degree from Haute école des arts du Rhin between 1999 and 2003. Their focus during this program was on painted artworks, world culture, and techniques and materials of pre-Hispanic art. Additionally, they were involved in a co-tutelle Master/Doctorate program at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, at the Instituto de Investigaciones Esteticas. This project focused on the interdisciplinary study of pre-Hispanic mural painting in Mexico.
