Louis van Heerden

Louis van Heerden is an accomplished geologist with extensive experience in the mining sector. Currently serving as Group Chief Geologist at First Quantum Minerals since March 2013, Louis manages geological functions at Kansanshi Mining Plc, focusing on resource and grade control, geotechnical and hydro geological aspects. Previous roles include Resource Manager at Platmin - Pilanesberg Platinum Mines and Chief Geologist at Boynton Investments, where leadership and technical capacity building within geological teams were key responsibilities. Earlier career highlights include positions at Lonmin Platinum, where Louis advanced from Mine Geologist to Manager Geology, and roles at Jankowitz and Lyons Consulting and Goldfields Ltd. Louis holds a BSc (Hons) in Geology from Rand Afrikaans University and furthered education at the University of Pretoria in 2011.
