About the role

As our Sr. Engineering Manager, you will work in tandem with the Product Managers, Engineers, and Designers to shape the future of Firstbase’s products. You’ll thrive in this role if you have experience building relationships with and influencing cross-functional team members, delivering high-quality projects on time, and analyzing data to produce actionable recommendations. Top candidates for this position are technically credible and know the details of what engineers work on, their time is spent safeguarding their team’s health, hiring a world-class team, and putting them in the best position to succeed. They own the delivery of product commitments and are always looking to improve productivity. They must also coordinate across departments to accomplish collaborative goals.

Who are we looking for

We are looking for risk-takers with diverse experience who can provide fearless feedback.

You will have the following duties

  • Hire and build a successful team
  • Lead and drive significant results for multiple teams
  • Managing 3 or more engineering teams with at least three engineering manager direct reports
  • Leading business critical cross-functional initiatives in addition to managing a team
  • Generate and implement process improvements, especially cross-team processes
  • Hold regular 1:1s with team members and skip-level 1:1s with indirect reports
  • Provide management mentorship
  • Give regular and clear feedback on the individual’s performance
  • Draft quarterly OKRs and Engineering KPIs
  • Improve product quality, security, and performance

You should meet the following requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience managing software development teams
  • At least 5 years of experience with Golang
  • Familiarity with AWS services - K8's, Docker, GitLab pipelines, and microservice architecture
  • BSc in computer science, electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Startup experience, building production systems from an early stage
  • Familiarity with concepts of IT environments and complex integrations
  • Hands-on experience with modern Frontend and Backend technologies
  • Experience dealing with time series data
  • Understanding control systems
  • Collaborate effectively with others
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
  • Not hesitant to get hands dirty and do whatever is necessary to ensure success
