Fishers Area Swimming Tigers
Garland grew up swimming in St. Louis, Missouri, for the Sugar Creek and Clayton Shaw Park swim clubs. From 1986 - 1988, she was a member of the US National Team. In 1987, Garland competed in the 1987 Pan Pacific Games and placed 2nd to Janet Evans in the 400 IM. She was an Olympic Trial Finalist in 1988 finishing 5th in the 400 IM. Swimming first at the University of Texas, Garland was a member of their 1990 NCAA Championship team. Transferring to Indiana University, Garland was a Big Ten finalist, 200 Back School Record holder, and Team Co-Captain from 1992 - 1994.
Garland then began coaching collegiate swimmers at both Eastern Michigan and Villanova University. She then moved on to St Bonaventure University as their Head Coach. During this time, she guided St. Bonaventure to the 1998 Atlantic 10 Championship title. Then, in 1999, Garland took an Assistant Coaching position at the University of Iowa. The next year, she was promoted to Head Coach of the women's team and served in that role for 4 years. During Garland's time leading the Iowa's female swimmers, the team broke 27 school records, had 6 All-Americans, 6 NCAA Qualifiers, 3 NCAA finalists, 1 Big Ten champion, and the 2003-2004 team placed 20th in the nation!
Garland joined the FAST coaching staff in 2012 and coaches both the Elite / High School swimmers and other age groups as needed. Garland is the lead coach for the FAST CAPP (College Assisted Planning Program). In addition she oversees the FAST Tigers Swim Lessons and Pre-Team programs. She also coaches with Summer Break Swim in the summer and regularly teaches adult swim clinics at the Fishers YMCA.
Away from the pool(s), Garland lives in Fishers with her husband, Jay, and four children, Bailey, Austin, Mia, and Delaney - and their dogs Molly and Nestle.

Founded in 2006, the Fishers Area Swimming Tigers is a 501(c)(3) organization that is based out of the state-of-the-art Fishers High School Natatorium located at 13000 Promise Road, Fishers, Indiana 46038. FAST has quickly become one of the best clubs in the state of Indiana and in the Midwest. In 2009 FAST recorded its first top 5 placing at the Indiana Age Group State Championships by finishing 3rd place at both short course and long course state meets, in just its third year of existence. The following year, FAST followed up those performances by placing 2nd at the 2010 Indiana Age Group Short Course State Championships. At the 2010 Long Course Championships, FAST dominated the competition and became the best age group team in the State of Indiana by winning our first state title! FAST has continued to be one of the best age group programs in the state by placing no lower than 3rd at the Indiana State Age Group Championships. FAST has accomplished this feat by developing athletes with their long-term success in mind and promoting a fun, friendly, and safe environment for athletes to grow.
