Staff Developer at Flexpa

Jason Kurian has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning various roles in software development. Jason is currently employed at Flexpa as a Staff Developer since May 2023. Prior to that, they worked at Shopify as a Senior Web Developer from September 2021 to March 2023 and as a Web Developer from November 2020 to September 2021.

Before joining Shopify, Jason served as a Senior Full-stack Developer at Paddle HR from May 2019 to October 2020. During their time at Paddle HR, they played a key role in designing and implementing a robust and extensible JAMstack architecture and design system. Jason also drove the adoption of GraphQL to provide easy access to a large dataset and derive useful insights for enterprise users.

From 2016 to 2018, Jason was a Full-stack Developer at Nulogy. Here, they participated in domain modeling and made greenfield technology decisions for a new product. Jason also built a data-intensive dashboard using PostgreSQL, Ruby on Rails, React, and Redux to help planners analyze historical data. Additionally, Jason co-invented and implemented storybook driven development with senior team members.

Prior to Nulogy, Jason worked as a Developer at Rangle.io from October 2015 to April 2016. In this role, they co-led tooling and maintenance of open-source starter projects, delivered multiple epics for a client-facing project, and consolidated internal products using Koa, React, and Redux.

Jason also had short-term roles as a Developer at Kaizena in 2015 and as a Developer Co-op at Boltmade in 2014. At Kaizena, they contributed code in AngularJS, Node.js, and Mongoose, and taught the team best practices in Agile and UX. At Boltmade, they created a library of reusable web components, wrote REST APIs for large datasets, and maintained a complex Ruby on Rails app.

In addition, Jason worked as a Developer Co-op at Intelligent Mechatronic Systems - IMS in 2014, where they contributed to web, Android, and iOS app development and made improvements based on behavior and screen flow studies.

Jason started their career as a Software Developer Co-op at Coreworx Inc. in 2013.

Jason Kurian has a diverse education history. Jason started by attending Port Credit Secondary School from 2006 to 2010, where they obtained a high school degree with a focus on SciTech. Following their high school education, they enrolled at the University of Waterloo from 2010 to 2014 and earned a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Systems Design Engineering. In addition to their bachelor's degree, Jason also participated in the Shad Valley UNB program in 2010; however, no specific degree or field of study was mentioned for this program.

Continuing their academic journey, Jason returned to the University of Waterloo from 2016 to 2019 and pursued an Honours Bachelor of Knowledge Integration (BKI) degree, specializing in the field of Knowledge Integration.

Aside from their formal education, Jason has obtained additional certifications. In 2023, they completed the "Building a Resilient Web" course at LinkedIn and "Breaking the Ice With Regular Expressions" course at Code School. Unfortunately, the obtained month and year for the latter certification were not provided.
