John E. Stephenson, Esq. has a diverse range of work experience in the field of athletics compliance and law. John began their career as a Summer Legal Intern at McLean Law, PC, where they gained knowledge of courtroom procedure and assisted with various legal cases in Family and Criminal Law. John then worked as a Summer Legal Intern at Durham County Government, advising on county government-related legal matters and ensuring compliance with laws. Stephenson furthered their legal experience as a Summer Legal Intern at the Supreme Court of North Carolina, where they prepared legal documents and conducted research for Justice Patricia Timmons-Goodson.

Stephenson later transitioned to the field of athletics compliance, starting as an Athletics Compliance Intern at East Carolina University. John received their High School Diploma from E.E. Smith High School in 2005. Additionally, John E. Stephenson, Esq. holds several certifications, including a Hospitality & Tourism Management Certificate from Florida Atlantic University (2020), an Attorney certification from The Missouri Bar (2015), an NAAC Education Certification from the National Association for Athletics Compliance (2014), and an Associate Instructor certification from the Professional Tennis Registry (2011).
