Higher Education Appropriations Budget Chief at Florida House of Representatives

Kira Smith has a diverse work experience in various governmental roles. Kira most recently served as the Higher Education Appropriations Budget Chief for the Florida House of Representatives starting in 2020. Prior to that, they worked as a Legislative Analyst for the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education in the Florida Senate from 2013 to 2020. Kira also gained experience in the Office of the Governor, where they served as a Governmental Analyst from 2011 to 2013, and as the Office of Policy and Budget Correspondence Coordinator from 2011 to 2011. Additionally, they worked in the Executive Office of the Governor as a Correspondence Analyst from 2010 to 2011, where they followed bills, responded to citizen correspondence, and gained knowledge of policy procedures. Before their time in government, they worked as a Laboratory Technician for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in 2010, where they strictly followed scientific protocols and ensured safety standards.

Kira Smith earned their Bachelor of Science degree in Social Sciences and Biology from Florida State University, where they studied from 2005 to 2009.
