Joe van Gaalen has extensive work experience in various institutions. Joe started their career as a Coastal Scientist at PBS&J in 2004, where they worked until 2006. Joe then joined Tetra Tech as a Hydrogeologist, responsible for groundwater monitoring and analysis, from 2006 to 2009. After that, they became an Instructor at Edison State College from 2009 to 2013. In 2013, they joined Coastal Carolina University as a Visiting Lecturer, teaching courses and conducting research on groundwater response and climate systems.

In 2014, Joe joined Florida SouthWestern State College as a Coordinator of Academic Assessment, where they facilitated college-wide student evaluation and served on various committees. Joe later became the Director of Assessment & Effectiveness, leading academic course-level assessment and serving as an author for accreditation-related reports. Currently, Joe holds the position of Assistant Vice President of Institutional Research, Assessment, & Effectiveness at Florida SouthWestern, overseeing program evaluations and strategic planning.

Joe van Gaalen completed their education in a chronological order. Joe first attended William Paterson University of New Jersey from 1998 to 2002 where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science. Joe then pursued a Master of Science degree in Geological Oceanography at the University of South Florida from 2002 to 2004. Finally, Joe went on to earn their Ph.D. in Geology from the University of South Florida, which they completed between 2006 and 2011. In addition to their academic degrees, they also hold a certification in SCUBA from NAUI. Information about the month and year they obtained the SCUBA certification is unavailable.
