Terry Coonan is the Executive Director of the Florida State University Center for the Advancement of Human Rights, a position held since 2000, where Terry serves as the founding director of an interdisciplinary human rights center. An Associate Professor of Criminology and a Courtesy Professor of Law at Florida State University, Terry teaches human rights courses across various programs. With over 20 years of experience as a practicing human rights and immigration law attorney, Terry is recognized as a leader in Florida's anti-trafficking community, providing training for judges, law enforcement, and service providers nationwide on trafficking victim advocacy. Additionally, Terry offers pro bono legal representation for asylum-seekers, trafficking victims, and torture survivors. Educational credentials include a Doctor of Law degree with a focus on international human rights law and immigration law from the University of Cincinnati College of Law, a Master of Arts in American & Irish History from Boston College, a Master of Divinity in Pastoral Theology & Liberation Theology, and a Bachelor of Arts in History and Theology from the University of Notre Dame.
