Sarah A. has over a decade of experience in the field of marine biology. Sarah began their career in 2002 as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University of Michigan Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program. In 2004, they were a Marine Mammal Training Intern at the National Aquarium. From 2005 to 2006, Sarah was a Sea Turtle Care Program Intern and Sarasota Dolphin Research Program Intern at the Mote Marine Laboratory. In 2006, they were promoted to Sea Turtle Care and Research Assistant Coordinator at the same lab. From 2009 to 2010, Sarah was a Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant at Western Michigan University, where they conducted independent research on the behavior and genetics of wrens. In 2010, they were a Visiting Research Scientist at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama. From 2013 to 2014, Sarah was a Field Research Supervisor at Bat Conservation International. Finally, from 2014 to 2015, they were a Marine Turtle Stranding Associate at NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration. In 2015, Sarah co-founded FlyWire Cameras, where they served as Co-Founder, COO and Co-Founder, Director of Sales and Marketing. During their time at FlyWire Cameras, Sarah was a 2021 Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation Entrepreneur, a 2020 Female Founded Startup of the Year Award recipient presented by Marrow, Commerce Lexington, and the University of Kentucky Office of Technology Commercialization, a 2020 Pacesetter Award recipient presented by the Kentucky Small Business Development Center, and a 2019 Fish 2.0 Top 40 Company. Sarah was also part of several accelerators and incubators, including the Elemental Excelerator (cohort 7), Techstars Sustainability Accelerator (cohort 1), Yield Lab Accelerator (North America), Endeavor Scale-Up Entrepreneur (Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana), and Sustainable Ocean Alliance Ocean Solutions Accelerator (Wave 3).
Sarah A. began their educational journey at the University of Michigan, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biopsychology and Cognitive Sciences; Biology in 2005. Sarah then continued their studies at Western Michigan University, where they obtained a Master of Science (M.S.) in Biology in 2012.
