Sophie Leemans

Phd Fellow Fundamental Research at Research Foundation Flanders - FWO

Sophie Leemans is a PhD Fellow in fundamental research at Research Foundation Flanders - FWO and a PhD Researcher at the Department of Architecture & Architectural Engineering, focusing on infrastructure networks and urban transformation alongside professors Maarten Gheysen and Erik Van Daele. Sophie conducted research as a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University, supported by a Fulbright Fellowship, collaborating with professors Kate Orff and Thaddeus Pawlowski on urbanism and landscape infrastructure projects. Prior experience includes an architects’ traineeship at Berlin-based TSPA, a student role at the LUCA Showcase exposition, and a position in real estate with Ertzberg. Academic credentials encompass a PhD in Architecture (2020-2024) and a Master’s degree in Architecture (2017-2019) from KU Leuven, along with a Master of Architecture and Urban Design from Chalmers University of Technology, and a Bachelor's degree in Architecture from KU Leuven.
