Viena Monterde is a PhD researcher at the Laboratory of Food Chemistry and Biochemistry at KU Leuven, with experience as an FWO Fundamental Research PhD fellow since November 2021. Previously, Viena served as a research assistant at the University of the Philippines Mindanao, contributing to a project focused on improved postharvest management of fruits and vegetables, where responsibilities included assisting thesis students, conducting experiments, and training farmers on postharvest practices. An internship at Franklin Baker Company involved quality control laboratory work, specifically analyzing coconut products. Academic qualifications include a Doctor of Philosophy in Bioscience Engineering from KU Leuven and dual Master of Science degrees in Food Technology from both Ghent University and KU Leuven, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Food Technology from the University of the Philippines Mindanao. An undergraduate exchange experience at the University of Tennessee further enriched Viena's expertise in food science and technology.
