Gary Bates

Gary Bates, Ph.D., serves as the Superintendent of Schools for Fort Sam Houston Independent School District since August 2018 and previously held the same position at Goodrich Independent School District. With extensive experience in educational leadership, Gary Bates has also been an adjunct professor at both the University of St. Thomas-Houston and Prairie View A&M University, teaching various courses on educational foundations and leadership. Prior roles include principal at Royal Jr. High and Hempstead High School, where significant improvements in campus ratings were achieved. Gary Bates holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Administration from Prairie View A&M University, along with a Master's and Bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
