Melissa Richards has extensive work experience in the education sector. Melissa started their career in 1996 as a Principal at Indianapolis Public Schools, where they worked until 2012. From 2012 to 2016, they served as Principal at Marion Community Schools. Since 2016, Melissa has been associated with Fort Wayne Community Schools, initially as a Director, and currently as the Director of Well-being and Alternative Programs.

Melissa Richards obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from PennWest Edinboro in the years 1985 to 1989. Following that, they pursued a Master's degree in Educational Leadership and Administration, with a focus on General Education, from Butler University from 1992 to 1995.
