Shabnum Budhwani

Senior Specialist, Fresh Success Program at FOUNDATION FOR CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGES

Shabnum Budhwani has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Shabnum'smost recent position was as a Specialist for Fresh Success at the Foundation for California Community Colleges since November 2020. Prior to that, they worked as an independent consultant from August 2014 to December 2019. During this time, they were self-employed. Shabnum also volunteered at the International Rescue Committee as part of the Volunteer Matching Grant Program from February 2019 to August 2019. Shabnum held various roles at the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC) from January 2015 to April 2016, including Senior Manager of Program Delivery for the TRIEC Mentoring Partnership. Additionally, Shabnum worked as a Consultant for TRIEC from May 2016 to March 2018. Before that, they served as a Client Facilitator at the Toronto Community Benefits Network (TCBN), Labour Education Centre from October 2014 to August 2015. Shabnum also worked as a Gender Based Analysis (GBA) Consultant at Newcomer Women's Services Toronto from 2014 to 2015. Shabnum'slongest tenure was at Skills for Change where they held the position of Manager of Programs & Services for five years, from February 2000 to July 2014. Shabnum managed two Employment Ontario locations, provided employment, mentoring, training supports, and case management to 1,500 clients annually. Additionally, Shabnum worked with employers in various sectors and industries, helping them with recruitment and hiring needs, and exceeded youth employment targets by placing marginalized youth into paid employment opportunities. Before that, they were self-employed at Providence Electronics in Dubai from 1995 to 1999.

Shabnum Budhwani's education history begins in 1971 when they attended Lusaka Girls School in Zambia for their junior high/intermediate/middle school education and teaching. Shabnum then went on to complete their high school education at St. Ann's High School in Jamnagar, India from 1975 to 1978.

In 1978, Budhwani proceeded to St. Xavier's High School in Jamnagar, India, where they studied commerce and obtained a secondary school degree. After completing their secondary education, they pursued a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) degree in Accounting and Statistics at the H.A. College of Commerce in Ahmedabad, India from 1981 to 1984.

Budhwani's pursuit of education continued in the field of computer applications and management. In 1984, they obtained a Diploma in Computer Applications and Management from the Bombay Productivity Council.

Later, they enrolled at George Brown College in Toronto, Canada and engaged in various courses and training programs. From 2002 to 2003, Budhwani underwent Leadership Enhancement Training at the Maytree Foundation. Shabnum also completed a Certificate in Counselling for Immigrants and Refugees from George Brown College in 2003-2004.

In 2006, Budhwani participated in Facilitator Training at the Women's Education, Referral & Counselling Centre. Additionally, in 2007, they took courses in practical management strategies and writing effective funding proposals at George Brown College.

Currently, Budhwani is pursuing an Ontario Management Diploma Program at George Brown College, which they started in 2007. Shabnum also completed a Certificate in Intercultural Studies at UBC in 2016 with a focus on intercultural/multicultural and diversity studies.
