Director of Marketing at Free Range Games

Joel Rodriguez has a diverse work experience spanning various companies and industries. Joel began their career in 2005 at Buffalo Wild Wings, where they worked as a Trainer, handling cashiering, kitchen, and serving responsibilities. After that, Joel held multiple positions at Lunchbox Studios, serving as a Contract Social Media Coordinator.

In 2008, they joined FUNimation Entertainment as a Marketing Intern, gaining experience in analysis, planning, and budgeting for multi-million dollar product launches. Joel eventually became an Associate Brand Manager and then a Brand Manager, overseeing home video best-sellers and managing game-based films and TV brands. Joel coordinated promotional needs, managed grassroots campaigns, and worked with cross-functional teams.

Joel then joined PlayStation in 2013 as an MBA Channel Marketing Intern, where they played a key role in channel campaigns and cross-promotional initiatives. Joel continued at PlayStation as an Associate Retail Marketing Manager, responsible for devising and executing marketing plans and managing accounts with major retailers.

In 2017, Joel transitioned to Telltale Games as a Senior Brand Manager. Here, they set the strategy for the global launch of The Walking Dead: The Final Season, managed a multi-million dollar marketing budget, and collaborated with executive staff, finance, and development teams.

From 2018 to 2021, Joel worked at Versus Evil, LLC as a Senior Brand Manager. Joel created 360 GTM plans for indie video game titles and collaborated with game developers globally.

Most recently, Joel has taken on the role of Director of Marketing at both Free Range Games and FreeRangeXR since 2021.

Joel Rodriguez completed their Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a specialization in Marketing from Southern Methodist University - Cox School of Business from 2012 to 2014. Prior to that, they pursued a degree in Radio, TV, and Film in the field of Media: Mass, Communicative, and Social at the University of North Texas from 2006 to 2009. Additionally, Joel attended Dallas College for a year in 2005-2006, although no specific degree or field of study was mentioned for this period.
