Ecological Engineer V at Freese And Nichols, Inc.

Emily Brown, PE, ENVSP, CFM has a strong background in ecological engineering, water quality monitoring, and engineering outreach and education. Emily began their career in 2010 as an Undergraduate Research Assistant in the Biological & Agricultural Department, where they conducted stream restoration analysis and water sample analysis. From 2011 to 2012, they worked as an Engineering Intern at Hazen and Sawyer, where they assisted with waste water, storm water, and drinking water projects, including water quality testing and field work such as wetland and stream delineation. In 2013, they joined Freese and Nichols as an Ecological Engineer V, where they currently work. Emily also has experience as a Water Quality Assistant at North Carolina State University, where they conducted water quality monitoring and sampling projects. In addition, they have been involved in community service as the Community Service Chair at APWA from 2014 to 2015, and has served as an Engineering Ambassador at the College of Academic Affairs, assisting with student recruitment and outreach events.

Emily Brown has a strong educational background in the field of engineering and environmental sciences. Emily pursued their PhD Program in Root Dendrogeomorphology at North Carolina State University from 2018 to 2022. Prior to this, they completed their Bachelor's degree in Biological/Biosystems Engineering from the same university, spanning from 2009 to 2013.

In addition to their academic achievements, Emily holds several certifications related to their field. Emily became a Professional Engineer (PE) in June 2019, certified by the NCEES. Emily also obtained the Certified Floodplain Manager certification from the North Carolina Association of Floodplain Managers in October 2015. Furthermore, Emily acquired the Envision Sustainability Professional certification from the Envision Rating System in January 2015.
