Manufacturing Engineer at Freight Farms

Ben Amsterdam has a diverse work experience in various industries. Ben started their career as a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Filtertech Inc. in 2017. Ben then worked as a Student Research Assistant at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine from 2018 to 2019.

In 2019, Ben worked as a Deckhand and Tourguide at Uncle Sam Boat Tours, where they conducted tours on the St. Lawrence River. Ben ensured passenger safety and assisted the captain in maneuvering the vessel.

From 2020 to 2022, Ben worked as a Manufacturing Engineer at Marathon Boat Group Inc. Ben played a key role in redesigning the aluminum boat line to meet updated standards set by the United States Coast Guard. Ben also managed the supply chain and collaborated with various suppliers to implement new features while maintaining ease of manufacturability.

In 2022, Ben joined Fractory as a Sales Engineer. Ben led sheet metal sales and expansion into the United States market. Ben developed a new supply chain across the country, collaborated with business customers to develop new product lines, and solved manufacturing and outsourcing problems.

Most recently, since 2023, Ben has been working as a Customer Support Engineer at Freight Farms, where they provide support to customers.

Throughout their work experience, Ben has gained expertise in various manufacturing processes and materials such as aluminum, steel, and stainless steel. Ben has also demonstrated strong problem-solving, collaboration, and project management skills.

Ben Amsterdam earned their Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Miami, where they studied from 2016 to 2020. In addition to their degree, they obtained several certifications. In July 2019, they received the 100 Ton Master certification from the U.S. Coast Guard. In March 2021, they became an Autodesk Certified Associate in CAD for Mechanical Design through Autodesk. Furthermore, in February 2020, they obtained the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (ICGB) certification from six sigma.
