Ian Schwartz, MD, serves as the executive vice president and chief clinical officer for the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network and senior associate dean of Quality for MCW. In this role, Dr. Schwartz provides leadership and expertise for clinical quality and safety, disease management, care coordination, clinical integration, clinical informatics and enterprise analytics.
Dr. Schwartz most recently served as senior vice president, Clinical Operations, and chief clinical operations officer for the Yale New Haven Health System, New Haven, Conn. Dr. Schwartz became the inaugural executive director for Care Management at Yale New Haven Hospital and then led the Performance Improvement department and health system clinical redesign efforts. In those roles, he led operational and improvement efforts for the nation’s fifth largest hospital.
Dr. Schwartz joined the Yale Emergency Medicine faculty in 2006. From 2009-2012, he served as medical director of the Yale New Haven Hospital Emergency Department, home to a Level I Trauma Center and host of more than 150,000 patient visits a year.
Dr. Schwartz is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital from which he received the Outstanding Resident Clinician award. Prior to his residency, Dr. Schwartz spent four years as an engagement manager at McKinsey & Company in New York City focusing on strategy and operations for its health care and media clients.
