Donald Edwards has a diverse work experience in various companies and roles. Donald started their career at WBHO Construction in 1993 as a Project Manager, where they worked on toll roads, concrete bridges, water and sewer infrastructure projects. In 2003, they joined Balfour Beatty Construction as a Project Manager, specializing in motorway widening projects. From 2005 to 2010, Donald worked at VolkerFitzpatrick Ltd as a Senior Project Manager, focusing on civil infrastructure projects in the South east of England. Donald then joined Leighton Contractors as an Area Manager, overseeing civil infrastructure construction projects in NSW. Prior to their current position, Donald worked at Ward Civil and Environmental Engineering as a General Manager, managing client relationships and delivering multiple projects within the NSW Sydney Region. Since 2018, they have been working as a Project Director at Fulton Hogan.

Donald Edwards has a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Civil Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand, which they obtained from 1989 to 1993. Prior to that, they also received a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Civil Engineering from King Edward VII from 1981 to 1985. In addition, they have obtained a certification from Engineers Australia called the National Engineering Register in 2020.
