Velizar Genov

Velizar Genov is the current head of engineering at Funding Options. Velizar has held this position for 11 months. Prior to this, they were the head of technology at Esme Loans - Digital Lending Platform @NatWest Ventures. Velizar was responsible for defining and formulating the company’s technical vision and strategy as well as the development, delivery and operation of services. Velizar scaled up the technical team from 2 to 13 members, onboarded and trained all new hires, and restructured the team to form 2 cross-functional squads to optimise delivery of services and support business demands. Velizar also spearheaded the project of automating governance, risk management and compliance by creating a blueprint on Azure in collaboration with the Ventures Group to minimise the manual intervention and improve efficiency. In addition, they collaborated with solution architects and team leads to transform and further evolve the overall system architecture; presented the final design and budget analysis to the senior management team, sought approval and then took those ideas to production. Velizar also led the development of a new service as a part of the KYC/KYB process in order to improve the workflow of the underwriters, mitigate risks and ensure compliance. Furthermore, they managed and guided external partners to develop a customer facing API orchestrator in order to improve the customer experience and minimise the onboarding time required. Velizar'stenure at Esme Loans lasted 1 year and 8 months.

Prior to their role at Esme Loans, Velizar Genov was a senior front-end engineer at Qubit for 2 years and 4 months. Before that, they were a mobile application developer intern at two10degrees for 5 months. Velizar started their career as a front-end developer at Web Direct, where they worked for 3 years and 4 months. Velizar also has experience in management, having worked as an assistant manager at Dairy Queen for 6 months.

Velizar Genov has a Master's Degree in Advanced Web Engineering from the University of Essex, which they obtained in 2015. Velizar also has a Bachelor's Degree in 3D Modelling and Computer Animation from the New Bulgarian University, which they obtained in 2012. In addition, they have a secondary education in Computer Science from the Professional School of Computing, which they obtained in 2009. Finally, they have taken various courses on finance and business valuation through LinkedIn.
