Irina Rice

General Counsel at FXCollaborative

Seeing opportunity in constraint is an invigorating challenge for Irina. As FXCollaborative's in-house legal counsel, she faces this challenge every day as she oversees all legal matters pertaining to the firm. Her work covers a wide range of issues, including negotiating architectural and subconsultant services contracts, leasing and vendor agreements, corporate compliance, claims, employment matters, and intellectual property enforcement.

A post-college job for a fashion designer initially revealed to Irina the hidden difficulties facing many creative businesses. Seeing the endeavors of her employer held back by unforeseen legal complexities, Irina was inspired to attend law school, focusing her studies on business and legal issues facing artists, designers, and other creators. Coincidentally, many of her friends were architects, and her interest in advising an architecture firm was piqued when she came to appreciate the profession's unique task of originating designs that conform to a vast array of goals and intricate restrictions.

Irina draws on this insight in her work for FXCollaborative, which requires exceptional flexibility, diligence, rigor, and attention to detail. As a result, her approach to legal issues and problem-solving is as fluid and multi-faceted as the many people involved in the firm's projects and professional pursuits. Having gained LEED accreditation, and also serving as a member of the legal committee for the American Institute of Architect's Large Firm Roundtable, Irina has carefully guided her own pursuits to become fully enmeshed in the profession of architecture.
