Thomas Marentette

Thomas Marentette has a diverse work experience in various engineering roles. Thomas is currently working at GAF Energy as a Product Development Engineer II. Prior to this, they founded their own company, Groupies, in February 2021.

Before their entrepreneurial venture, Thomas worked at DENSO as a Heat Exchanger R&D Engineer I from January 2018 to September 2021. In this role, they developed an ANSYS thermal strain model that resulted in a 15% strain reduction for DENSO's next-generation heat exchanger. Thomas also created a heat exchanger sizing tool using heat transfer theory to predict the required size for future vehicles based on their attributes.

Thomas gained experience at FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, where they served as a Paint Maintenance Supervisor for a brief period from June 2017 to October 2017. Their responsibilities included supervising a team of technicians and implementing visual displays for paint defect data to improve production quality. In 2016, they also worked as a Tooling Engineer at FCA, designing and implementing tools to reduce operator strain and coordinating tooling repairs to minimize downtime.

Additionally, Thomas was involved with Queen's University Baja SAE, where they held multiple roles. As the Powertrain Lead from September 2016 to June 2017, they created a CVT transmission model and tuning strategy that improved vehicle acceleration time by 8%. Thomas also achieved a 15% reduction in clutch mass through FEA optimization and managed powertrain projects that contributed to a 6th place overall finish. In their earlier role as Chassis Designer from September 2015 to May 2016, they designed a steel chassis that increased stiffness by 24% and reduced mass by 10%, leading to a 9th place overall finish. Thomas validated FEA simulation results using strain gauges for critical areas of the frame under load.

Thomas Marentette holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Queen's University. In August 2017, they also obtained the certification of Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) from Dassault Systèmes.
