Merlin Plant

Merlin Plant is currently a Biobank Techncian at Galatea Bio. Prior to this, they worked as a Lead Epidemiologist - Surveillance, Investigations and Reporting at the Texas Department of State Health Services from September 2020 to February 2021. In this role, they conducted and documented COVID-19 cluster and outbreak investigations, including conducting case-patient interviews, tracking COVID-19 test results for patients, tracking and reporting suspected and confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths, medical record tracking, and reviews, and follow-up with external organizations for additional information as appropriate. They also developed protocols and identified strategies for improving and/or enhancing surveillance data collection, management, and/or monitoring processes.

Before working in Texas, they worked as a Lead Epidemiologist - Surveillance, Investigations and Reporting at the DC Department of Health from September 2020 to February 2021. In this role, they collaborated with DC Health epidemiologists and use DC Health Guidelines to facilitate testing for patients and healthcare workers for COVID-19 testing through DC Health and the DC Public Health Laboratory. They interacted daily with Public Health Officials, Emergency Managers, and other high-level community stakeholders to provide infection control and Epidemiologically related guidance about COVID-19. They planned meetings and training programs, and participated in conference calls as necessary to carry out their activities and as assigned. They also wrote COVID-19 guidance for members of the public and stakeholders from various sectors (e.g., business, healthcare, schools) about mitigating and preventing the spread of COVID-19 in the community and other types of settings.
