Zachary Milne possesses extensive experience in research and development within materials science and engineering. Currently at Gatan Inc. since June 2022, Zachary focuses on the development of cryogenic transmission electron microscopy (TEM) sample holders for applications in nanoscale biological, battery, and novel-materials research. Prior to this role, Zachary served as a Senior Member of the Technical Staff at Sandia National Laboratories, conducting materials research under X-ray insult in pulsed-power facilities. As a Postdoctoral Appointee at Sandia, Zachary engaged in basic materials research in extreme environments and advanced the development of cutting-edge TEM hardware. In a previous role as a Research Investigator at DuPont, Zachary contributed to teams in new-product development utilizing Tyvek© for clean-room applications. Zachary earned both a Ph.D. and a Master of Science in Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, where research focused on nanoscale contact mechanics and interfacial chemistry, alongside teaching responsibilities. Prior to academic pursuits, Zachary served as a Senior Airman in the United States Air Force.
