Derek A Small

Derek A Small has a diverse and extensive work experience in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry. Derek A founded Luson Bioventures in 2007, focusing on venture creation of biotech and pharmaceutical companies. At Luson Bioventures, they acted as the Managing Director and played a crucial role in the development and growth of these start-up companies.

In 2008, Derek took on the role of Founding CEO, Board of Directors, and Senior Advisor at Naurex, a portfolio company of Luson Bioventures. Derek A later became the Founding CEO & President and was involved in the acquisition of Naurex by Allergan.

Derek also co-founded Assembly Pharmaceuticals in 2012, which later merged with Ventrus Biosciences to form Assembly Biosciences in 2014. Derek A held various executive positions in Assembly Biosciences, including Co-founder, CEO, and President.

Furthermore, Derek established Gate Neurosciences, Inc. in 2018 and served as its Co-founder and Chairman. Derek A was also a Board Member at BioCrossroads in 2017.

In 2016, Derek launched Assembly China as the Founding General Manager and Director. The company focused on establishing a presence in China for Assembly Biosciences' HBV programs.

Additionally, Derek had a role as an Advisor to the CEO and acting VP of Business Operations at Endgenitor Technologies, Inc. from 2007 to 2009. Derek A also served as a Founding CEO & President at Coferon, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company specializing in self-assembling chemistry.

In their most recent role, Derek co-founded Monument Biosciences in 2023, where they serve as the Chairman and CEO.

Derek A Small started their education at Purdue University in 1994, although the degree and field of study are unspecified.
