Position Overview
The Assistant Principal at Gateway Middle School plays a pivotal role in partnership with the Principal to steer the school's educational journey. This position is primarily centered on cultivating a vibrant student culture grounded by high expectations and radical grace. The Assistant Principal, working closely with the Dean of Students, is entrusted with the task of shaping and implementing policies, traditions, and initiatives that nurture students' academic prowess and emotional well-being, firmly anchored in the principles of restorative justice. The Assistant Principal will co-lead a dynamic learning environment that is committed to equipping every student with the tools for academic excellence and unlocking doors to higher education, irrespective of their initial academic standing.
Major Duties and Responsibilities of Assistant Principal:
Leadership of School Culture
Restorative Practices and Behavioral Support
Leadership and Supervision
Lead and coordinate key Student Support Team and student support providers and programs (e.g. the School Counselor, the Student Support Coordinator, Advisory, Student Council programs, and others);
Effectively supervise and manage staff, including conducting regular evaluations, providing ongoing feedback and support, and fostering a professional environment conducive to collaborative work and continuous improvement;
Work with the athletic director to ensure athletic teams are meeting expectations and that all needs are being met for athletes and coaches;
Lead middle school master scheduling process, with input from key stakeholders, and other student-related schedules in general;
SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS
The salary range for this position is $115,000-$130,000, plus benefits. GPS offers an excellent benefits package, including medical, dental and vision insurance (employee premiums covered by Gateway and additional stipends for dependents), life insurance, six weeks paid vacation, ten sick days, and 15 paid holidays, professional development opportunities, a retirement savings plan with employer match, onsite parking, and, if qualified, student loan repayment support.

Ability to work collaboratively with a dedicated staff and involved parent body;
Commitment to being anti-racist and pro-Black as well as modeling an asset-based approach
Commitment to data- and equity-driven decision-making
Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills;
At least 3 years experience working with middle school students in an urban school preferred;
Experience and expertise with restorative practices and PBIS preferred;
Prior administrative and leadership experience in a relevant role preferred;
