Wally Harper

VP Human Resources at Gaylord Hospital

Wally Harper has extensive work experience spanning over four decades. Wally began their career in 1977 as a Student Teacher at Veterans Hospital before becoming a Teacher at Hartford Public High School in 1978. In 1981, they transitioned to the role of Employee Relations Manager at Cooper Crouse-Hinds. From 1986 to 1990, Harper worked as the Manager of Compensation & Benefits at Pitney Bowes, Wheeler Group, where they developed pay systems and oversaw benefits administration. Wally then moved on to Pitney Bowes Management Services and served as the Manager of Compensation and Admin from 1990 to 1993. At DST Output, Harper held dual roles: Director of Staffing and Policy Integration from 1999 to 2004 and Regional Director of Human Resources from 1993 to 1999. In 2004, they became the Vice President of Human Resources at United Natural Foods before taking on the role of Consultant at Resources Global Professionals from 2004 to 2006. Wally then became the Assistant Vice President of Human Resources at Rushford Center Inc., Hartford Healthcare from 2006 to 2010. Their most recent position was as the VP of Human Resources at Gaylord Specialty Healthcare starting from 2010. Throughout their career, Harper has demonstrated expertise in various HR functions, including leadership development, employee relations, staffing, compensation, benefits, compliance, and policy.

Wally Harper holds a Master's Degree in Business Management, with a specialization in Human Resources Management, which they obtained from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute from 1982 to 1985. In addition, they have a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Central Connecticut State University. Wally also completed the Dale Carnegie Course at Dale Carnegie, where they focused on developing effective communications and improving human relations. Wally further pursued their education at HRCI, obtaining the SPHR certification in Human Resources Management/Personnel Administration. Wally also attended SHRM, specializing in Human Resources Management/Personnel Administration. Finally, Wally engaged in studies related to World at Work, specifically in the field of ACA (Affordable Care Act).
