Derek Vadala

Derek Vadala serves as the Chief Risk Officer at BitSight since October 2021 and is an investor at Gem since January 2023. Additionally, Derek holds a position on the advisory board for Team8 and was the Co-Founder and CEO of VisibleRisk from July 2019 to October 2021, where products to quantify cyber risk were developed in collaboration with Moody's and Team8. Previously, Derek had a long tenure at Moody's Corporation from July 2003 to October 2021, serving as Managing Director and CISO, among other roles, leading global Information Security strategy and operations. Derek’s career includes roles as Senior Security Engineer and Security Engineer, and earlier experience at igxglobal and as a freelance consultant, along with authorship of a book on Linux storage systems. Derek earned a BA in English Literature from the University of San Francisco.
