Kristel Dorighi is a Scientist 4 at Genentech, where since September 2017, the focus has been on CRISPR genome engineering and functional genomics. Prior to this, Kristel served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Stanford University School of Medicine from August 2013 to September 2017, researching transcriptional regulation and epigenetics under the guidance of Joanna Wysocka. Kristel investigated the effects of histone methylation on gene expression, demonstrating that monomethylation of histone H3 on lysine 4 is not essential for enhancer activity in mouse embryonic stem cells. Earlier experience includes work as a Graduate Student Researcher at UC Santa Cruz, where research centered on chromatin biology and epigenetics, and as a Life Sciences Research Assistant at Stanford University focusing on immunology and evolutionary genetics. Kristel holds a Ph.D. in Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and a B.S. in Biology from UC San Diego.
