Michael Hughes

Michael Hughes is the current Regional Manager for Gen Re Canada. Prior to this, they were with Sun Life Financial for over 8 years, where they were Vice President of Individual Actuarial Finance, Valuation and Risk Management. In this role, they were responsible for the valuation, capital and risk management for Sun Life Canada's Individual life and health lines of business. Michael also led the planning and forecasting processes for net income, VNB, capital, and ROE metrics; out-of-the-box strategic thinker and partner to help drive ROE and underlying earnings for the business; valuation & financial reporting responsibility for multi-billion dollar blocks of business; attracting talent, growing and developing team to help them on their path of becoming future leaders at Sun Life Financial.

Before their time at Sun Life Financial, Michael spent 8 years at The Manufacturers Life Insurance Company in various roles, including Chief Operating Officer of the Barbados Branch, Variable Annuity Pricing Officer, and Group Pension - Inforce Management.

Michael has over 20 years of experience in the insurance industry and is a recognized leader in actuarial finance, valuation, and risk management.

Michael Hughes has a BMath from the University of Waterloo in Actuarial Science, and they also attended Loyola high school and pope john paul II in ontario. Michael is currently a High School teacher.

Michael Hughes works with and Jules Constantinou - Regional Manager, UK & Ireland. Their manager is Peter Temple, Head of Region UK, Ireland, South Africa & Canada.
