Brett Hannigan has over 20 years of work experience in various roles within the biotech and technology industries.
Brett is currently working as the Senior Director of Quantitative Biology at Generate Biomedicines since August 2022. Prior to this, they worked at Inscripta, Inc. from October 2019 to August 2022, serving as the Director of Bioinformatics Software and Engineering.
From 2014 to 2019, Brett held multiple positions at DNAnexus. Brett was the Senior Director of Science from July 2018 to October 2019, where they built and led the science team for DNAnexus' translational informatics product. Before that, they served as the Director of Scientific Partnership from April 2016 to July 2018, leading a team focused on partnering with NGS instrument providers and bioinformatics software providers. Brett also worked as a Computational Biology Project Leader from January 2014 to April 2016, where they played a key role in developing partnerships and attending conferences focused on NGS technologies.
Prior to their roles at DNAnexus, Brett worked at DeGrado Lab as a Ph.D. student from January 2009 to December 2013. During their time there, they focused on protein design and protein structure inference. Brett also worked as a Consultant for the Penn Biotech Group in 2010, where they developed a marketing strategy for an RNA-Seq software package, and as a Teaching Assistant for Computational Biology at the University of Pennsylvania in 2010.
Brett started their career at NVIDIA as a Lead Architecture Engineer from December 2003 to July 2007, where they managed a team of architecture engineers and authored design documentation for the display unit of Tesla graphic processors. Before that, they worked at Digimarc as an Algorithm Engineer from July 1999 to November 2003, being involved in the design and implementation of Digimarc's digital watermarking technology. Brett also had a brief internship as a HW Engineer at 3dfx in 1998, where they worked on the verification team for a next-generation graphics processor.
Brett Hannigan holds a Ph.D. in Genomics and Computational Biology from the University of Pennsylvania, which was obtained from 2007 to 2013. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University between 1997 and 1999. Before starting their undergraduate studies, Brett attended Texas A&M University from 1994 to 1997, where they pursued Electrical Engineering and Math. Brett'ssecondary education took place at Klein High School from 1990 to 1994. Additionally, they have obtained various certifications from Coursera and LinkedIn, including training in PostgreSQL, Jenkins, Database Design and Basic SQL, as well as several courses on machine learning and neural networks.
