When the native of Davenport was named Vice President of Information Services after a nationwide search in 2001, it marked a return to his roots, in more ways than one. Not only did Frieden's career bring him back to the Quad Cities, he also came to work for the hospital where he was born - the former Mercy Hospital, now Genesis Medical Center's West Central Park campus. Through his leadership, Genesis has been named one of the nation's "Most Wired" hospitals and health systems for 14 consecutive years, an award that recognizes Genesis for its use of technology to provide patients with the highest standards of safety and quality of care.
Frieden graduated from North Scott High School in Eldridge, Iowa, and with a Management of Information Systems degree from the University of Northern Iowa, began his career in health care at Trinity Medical Center as a financial applications manager. He moved on to become the MIS Director at Loris Healthcare System in South Carolina; the Vice President of Information Technology at Arkansas Children's Hospital, and then the Regional Chief Information Officer of Doctors Community Healthcare Corporation (DCHC) in Chicago.
